WebEd: It's cuti bersama
"June 2 is Ascension Day, a public holiday that marks the the day Jesus Christ rose to heaven, according to Christian beliefs. " Isn't it amazing how they want to ban religions that are not Islam here and yet they are happy to take their holidays? Two faced or what?
Another one? When it comes to the amount of public holidays, I wonder how Indonesia ranks compared to other countries in the world. Top 10?
I think that April 1st also needs to be made a public holiday and be specifically aimed at those in government.
I wish my government did the same...

The
government has decided to make June 3, 2011 a public holiday for civil servants despite mounting criticism of sudden day-off decisions that disrupt services and cause confusion.
"After much consideration we decided that Friday, June 3rd is a public
holiday," Agung Laksono, the coordinating minister for people’s welfare, told a press
conference Monday.
June 2 is Ascension Day, a public holiday that marks the the day Jesus Christ rose to heaven, according to Christian beliefs.
This year it also marks yet another four-day weekend for people of all faiths, especially those who work for the government. Many private businesses will remain open.
Previously, the government made May 16, the day before the Buddhist Waisak day, a public holiday, but made the announcement just two days ahead of the date.
The abrupt move was criticized by people who
could not access public services in state institutions because of
the snap holiday.
Agung said the latest public holiday was necessary because many civil
servants did not get the opportunity to use their yearly leave due to job responsibilities and this is a way for them to take time off.
"Public holidays are also important to boost our tourism industry," he said.
Agung said that strategic public services such as hospitals,
health clinics, fire departments, banks and police stations will still be
open on June 3rd.
"I have ordered relevant institutions to
arrange the staff rosters to ensure that the public can still access
necessary services," he said.
