Dubai’s public prosecutor will demand the death penalty for an Emirati and his girlfriend for the alleged torture of the man’s two daughters which left one of them dead, state news agency WAM reported.
“The Public Prosecution will demand the death penalty for Hamad Saud Juma al-Shirawi, a 29-year-old security official, and his girlfriend Al-Anoud Mohammed al-Ameri, a 27-year-old housewife,” WAM quoted Attorney General Essam al-Humaidan as saying.
The couple had tortured eight-year-old Wadeema — who died — and her seven-year-old sister Meera over a six-month period at Shirawi’s house in Dubai, Humaidan said.
The suspects had “imprisoned” the two girls and “used threats as well as physical and mental torture against them” up until the end of May, the prosecutor added.
They “had used all forms of brutal torture — beating them up, burning them with an iron and cigarettes, and pouring boiled water on their bodies,” he said.
They also tortured the girls with electric shocks and locked them up in “the bathroom and in the closet, leaving them for hours without water or food,” Humaidan added.
The couple then “buried Wadeema’s dead body in a remote desert area” while Meera was left with “10 percent permanent disability on different parts of her body.”
Gulf News, which said the couple were Emirati, quoted Humaidan as saying that “we have referred the suspects to the Dubai Court of First Instance and asked for the implementation of capital punishment.”
Meera had been hospitalized and sent to a child care center, said the prosecutor.
