The Indonesian Consultation Bureau has suggested that Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo rename Jalan Kramat Raya after the late Abdurrahman “Gus Dur” Wahid.

Eddy Sadeli of the NGO wrote to Fauzi that it proposed the street’s name be changed. Gus Dur was Indonesia’s fourth president as well as a prominent figure with Nahdlatul Ulama, the country’s largest Islamic organization. He died in late December at the age of 69.

“Gus Dur has made contributions to the national motto of Unity in Diversity as well as pluralism and egalitarianism,” Eddy said in the letter, which was also forwarded to the late president’s widow, Sinta Nuriyah Wahid, their children and to the chairman of the City Council.

Fauzi said that in order to change a street’s name the city administration must first consult with urban historical experts.
