At 2:30 this morning (Tuesday 10 January) a fire started in a section of the bar at Aphrodite. There were no injuries and the damage is actually not as bad as it looks in the pictures. The kitchen remains fully operational and open for deliveries (call 021 527 3307). The bar will be open for business again as soon as possible. If you are Friends of Aphrodite, come to our sister outlet Liquid Exchange in Epicentrum instead and have a drink on us. Thanks for all the messages of support and see you soon.

Popular Jakarta bar and restaurant Aphrodite was seriously damaged in a fire early on Tuesday morning.

Co-owner Fred Alloysius told the Jakarta Globe that police were currently investigating the cause of the blaze, which is believed to have started about 2:30 a.m. after the bar in Club Rasuna, just off Jalan Rasuna Said, had closed.

Alloysius said the central part of the premises suffered serious fire damage and the remainder from smoke and water damage.

He said the damage would have been much worse had it not been for the fact that Rasuna Epicentrum had its own fire engine, which was parked directly opposite the establishment.

The restaurant had just undergone major renovations.

Alloysius has a number of bars and restaurants in Jakarta, including the Liquid Exchange in the Epicentrum.

“Look, we’re trying to stay positive. Anyone who comes to Aphros will get a free drink voucher at Liquid [across the road],” he said.
