Nganjuk, East Java. In what appears to be a shocking new case involving an alleged serial killer, police believe a 34-year-old man used rat poison to kill at least four men out of jealousy.

Police in Nganjuk, East Java, said on Tuesday that they had arrested Mujianto following reports from two of his six victims who survived the poisoning.

Nganjuk Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Anggoro Sukartono said they believed the suspect was jealous after seeing his gay lover turn to other men.

Police said the number of victims could increase because Mujianto had showed them 15 different locations where he poisoned his victims.

“We are continuing to investigate the case. The number of the victims could increase,” Anggoro said.

The series of poisonings that led to murder began in 2011 when Mujianto felt his employer and gay partner Jok began to ignore him and turned to other men.

Mujianto, who lived at Jok’s house at the time, allegedly decided to eliminate his competitors after seeing his boss invite each of the men to his house.

He separately contacted each of them and told them that Jok wanted them to meet somewhere else. Once there, Mujianto offered them drinks filled with rat poison, which lead to four of their deaths, police said.

Ahyani, 46, a civil servant in the province; Romadhom, 55, a Ngawi resident; Basori from Pacitan regency and another unidentified man have all died.

The two surviving victims are Muhammad Fais, 26, from Pasuruan and Anton P. Sumartono, 47, from Surakarta, Central Java.

Police said the surviving victims were reluctant to talk because they were ashamed.

According to Nganjuk residents, they had not been suspicious of Mujianto as he did not speak with them often.

“We don’t know him that much. What we know is that he worked at Jok’s house,” said Maryam, a neighbor.

She said that it was Jok who was friendly to his neighbors.

Police said that Jok still denied any connection to Mujianto’s alleged actions.

“We will continue to interrogate him,” Anggoro said.

He added that police had asked that Mujianto be assessed by psychiatrist.

Confessed serial murderer Verry “Ryan” Idham Henyansyah, who is gay, was sentenced to death for killing at least 10 other people after robbing them.

Although there have been attempts to link the two, the only similarities are the fact they are both gay and are suspected serial killers.
