We asked: Do you think it is right to move the statue? Should there be a statue of Barack Obama at all?
You replied:
The row over the Obama statue misses all the main points. It doesn’t matter where the statue is, and it was surely only a matter of time before someone suggested one. What gets me is how sentimental, mawkish and badly designed the statue is. A little tubby boy, his lines imagined as if the plans were drawn in a drug haze, supposedly touting the simple message of hope by letting an outsize butterfly flap off his hand. Possibly fine if tucked among flowerbeds at eye-level, but this statue is set on a plinth so big that it can only be a metaphor for its commissioner’s ambition. Poor taste all round.

Thousands of Indonesian children die each month from treatable diseases, and we waste our time debating the location of a statue. Sigh.

I think the solution has been found. Putting the statue of Obama at the school where he studied is suitable. It shouldn’t have been in a public park. I agree that this space should be for Indonesians.

From the start that statue should not have been built. Too much sucking up to America! There are many ways to suck up. Why did they not build a statue of SBY? After all he is the one who stabilized our nation in times of crisis. Obama only stayed four years in Indonesia, and he has not contributed anything to the nation. He just studied here.

We asked: Do you think state banks should be stopped from selling more shares?
You replied:
I think the state has a point in not wanting to protect its revenues. But the planned “veto” does leave State Minister Mustafa Abubakar looking silly for saying he would back any rights issue by state banks. Is this, once again, a minister being hung out to dry by the government?
