We asked: What do you think of Vice President Boediono’s comments that out of loyalty President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono he will not resign?

You replied:

Long live Boediono! I hope I can follow in your footsteps some day. Be true and be yourself!

I think it’s more out of the fact that he’s not in any danger of losing his job that he will not resign. Can we please, please end this Bank Century mess. I’m still dizzy from lightly educated lawmakers trying to tell professional economists what’s what.
Meylani, Guntur

I think he’s lucky to still have his job. If SBY hadn’t stood up for him, Boediono would be at the mercy of the political parties in the House. I don’t think he will be as effective as the VP now, but his job is safe.

It sounds like what he would say. Then again, he didn’t need to say anything because he was obviously never going to resign in the first place. I find it absolutely incredible that members of the House would ask somebody to resign over allegations of wrongdoing. Did Akbar Tanjung resign as House speaker after he was convicted of corruption?

Indonesian politicians don’t have a history of resigning, even when they’re caught red-handed. I didn’t notice any transportation ministers resigning after all those airplanes fell out of the sky in 2007 and 2008. Why should they? Resigning means you accept responsibility for something.

We asked: Do you think oil prices will average $77 a barrel this year?

You replied:

Probably not, but it’s impossible to predict oil prices. I think they are at least being realistic, as skyrocketing oil prices in 2008 played havoc with the state budget.

The other question is why Indonesia isn’t in OPEC anymore and can’t produce enough oil to be an official oil exporter.
