We asked: Is Anas Urbaningrum the best leader for the Democratic Party? Why was Andi Mallarangeng rejected so strongly?

You replied:

The Democrats’ congress decided to kick Andi and give SBY an intentional tap to his ankles. Presidential family support, promotional hype and mass media advertising didn’t sway delegates. This sends a strong message that ministerial commissions should be taken seriously and demand full-time commitment — not be regarded as part-time sinecures. The congress proved to be more democratic and far less expensive than Golkar’s congress.
Peter, Jakarta

I think Anas is much more mature than the others, both in terms of personality and professional experience in politics. The Democrats have been able to show the country how a party should run — free from the interference of the older patrons. SBY deserves my praise.
Pandu Karyadi

Andi reeks of nepotism. Thank God, the Democrats are smart enough to realize that.
Budiana, Jakarta

At last, a political party that uses its brain and heart. Golkar and PDI-P should learn something from this case, or become extinct like the dinosaurs did. Times are changing and they should too.
Widiatmo, Tangerang

Anas is more of what an ideal Indonesian politician should be. Not abrasive, self-effacing, smart and intellectual and, more importantly, dedicated.
Dewi Tjahjadi Kumala, Jakarta

We asked: Do you believe the Jakarta Composite Index will rebound this week?

You replied:

Yes, factors currently affecting it are imports, not local. Indonesia has a stable foundation and should be able to weather the storm.
