We asked: Do you share Hartadi A Sarwono’s optimism on the growth of Indonesia’s economy?

You replied:

Sorry, Hartadi Sarwono. I’ll believe it only when I see it.
Hadi Syamsuddin

At the very least, should that growth forecast turn out true, it only serves to show how the market and most Indonesians, including myself, have completely disregarded what our “Honorable Council Members” have been busy at in the past two months as mere politicking that only serves their own or their parties’ interests.
Adi Wiguna, Jakarta

I wish I could really share that optimism.

No time for gloating. After all the Bank Century hullabaloo, we should get back to work. Seriously.
Cindy, Tangerang

We asked: Do you agree that Indonesiais the most corrupt countryin the Asia-Pacific region?

You replied:

Why would anyone be surprised? Come on Indonesia, it’s time we show the world that we, too, can be clean.
Julius Phang

It is indeed everywhere. Officials here are just not as good as hiding it, like in some other countries. I do believe the amounts embezzled here are a bit bigger, though. “No fear” seems to be the thought. Why go for a slice when the whole loaf is on the table? And I guess they know the power of the people here is a bit less powerful.
Chris H

Corrupt, we certainly are. Most corrupt in the region, I still have reservations. What we may be is a nation where corruption appears not to be a shameful act that needs to be well-hidden. Just looking at the wealth that our officials and dear parliamentarians are flaunting can explain that rating.

No! Of course not! It is just part of our culture!
