We asked: Do you think it is right to move the statue of Barack Obama?

You replied:

It is absolutely right to move the statue of Barack Obama from Menteng Park to the elementary school where he studied “years” ago. Regarding the purpose of putting up a statue in certain places, this establishment of a Barack Obama statue is meaningless since he had lived only for several years here and has not given any dedication to Indonesia. He does not fight for Indonesia’s welfare, he does not lift his arms together with Indonesia, and he is not Indonesian.

Indonesia should be aware of this illusion and wake up to reality. I believe Obama’s living and schooling in Indonesia are not the reasons why he became US president. He never considers any Indonesian in deciding on his policies, and he never represents Indonesian culture. I do respect Barack Obama, but his statue is a different case.

We asked: Which of the parties do you believe in the Bank Century probe?

You replied:

Believe? Political parties? Not possible to believe any of them. It’s all just power playing.

I do not think people in the House are thinking about how to make Indonesia a better nation. They’re thinking about how to become richer. I do not know who is telling truth.

On the Web:

Is democracy sitting back and being polite and respectful and not making much noise while corrupt politicians steal the people’s money and flout every value of just governance? That sounds like Suharto-era democracy to me. If people don’t protest, how else can they have any impact on the broken institutions that govern this country? When people feel confident about receiving true justice before a court, when people feel that their money will be spent on building a better nation rather than lining the pockets of officials, then maybe the protests will be less “unruly.”
