We asked: What do you think of Garuda’s service and standards these days? Did it deserve its award?

You replied:

I believe the Skytrax award was well deserved by Garuda. Its transformation was amazing: the fleet was refreshed and the services and facilities were upgraded to suit businessmen. Yet the hospitality has been maintained. There was no sign of the previous New Order type of management, where Garuda was like a family business rather than a flag carrier. Under Pak Emirsyah, Garuda shows that it is a profit-oriented company and can compete with any major airline. That’s how a flag carrier should be managed. Furthermore, I just have one wish. That the meal in economy class should be presented as a “real” meal — taste, serving and presentation wise.
Andre, Balikpapan

My line of work requires a lot of travel, and Garuda has always been my first choice. Garuda has rightfully earned its place as the best airline in Indonesia through its hard work in serving its customers. I am one of these satisfied customers.

Garuda is a far cry from the Garuda of a few years ago, where attention to customers, comfort and punctuality was nonexistent. Kudos to Pak Emirsyah Satar.

We might have lost some national pride when our badminton team came home empty handed. But this time, Garuda has been able to provide us with much solace. At least this Indonesian company, a state-owned company to boot, has been able to reap international recognition. One that can make us proud as a nation.

We asked: Are you in favor of public-private partnerships for developing the nation’s infrastructure?

You replied:

Sure, but the partnership part should be underlined. The government and the private sector should both work at the same level.
