Colombian singer Shakira visited Phoenix, Arizona, on Thursday, meeting with the city’s police chief and mayor over concerns that a sweeping new state law cracking down on illegal immigration will lead to racial profiling.
The law, signed last week, is viewed as the toughest on illegal immigration in the nation, making it a state crime to be in the US illegally.
“Shakira is deeply concerned about the impact of this law on hardworking Latino families,’’ her adviser said. The philanthropist and Grammy winner, herself a latina, will also meet with Hispanic families in Phoenix to see how they will be affected by the law.
