Nia Dinata Reaches For the Sky With 3D Animated Movie
Indonesian director Nia Dinata is gearing up for the release of her latest project, the 3D animated feature film “Meraih Mimpi” (“Reaching Dreams”).
Nia, who has many directed many successful movies, including “Berbagi Suami” (“Love for Share”) in 2006, “Arisan!” In 2003 and “Ca-Bau-Kan” (“The Courtesan”) in 2002, said the film cost $5 million to produce.
“We had help from a [US-based] film institution called MDA [Media Development Authority],” Nia said.
She said she would have had trouble obtaining the funds locally, adding that the nation’s recent film bill issue had also been an obstacle. “I just feel very thankful we received the help that we did.”
She said international sponsors like the MDA were “serious, if they see we are also serious in producing a movie.”
“Meraih Mimpi” was released on Sept. 10 nationally, and Singapore and Russia have also bought rights to the movie. “Not only Japan and America will have their animation films screened everywhere” Nia said.
