Indonesian veteran actor and dancer Haji Incik Muhammad Damsyik died early on Jan. 28 at the age of 82 from a blood-related disease.
Damsyik rose to stardom for his portrayal of Datuk Maringgih, the antagonist in the 1980s TV drama “Siti Nurbaya,” which aired on state-run TVRI. Damsyik also starred in more than 60 films and had a passion for ballroom dance. He taught dancing classes and became a judge on “Seleberiti Dance,” a local version of “Dancing With The Stars.”
Born in Lampung on March 14, 1929, Damsyik began his acting career in the late 1950s in the feature film “Bertamasya” (“Excursion”). His last film was 2011’s romantic drama “Milli & Nathan.”
