YouTube Filmmakers to Visit Jakarta
What was the last movie you watched? Mine is “Home Is Where the Hans Are.”
Never heard of it before? Go check it out on YouTube. It’s a quirky new short film about family relationships produced by three young filmmakers: Philip Wang, Wesley Chan and Ted Fu, better known as Wong Fu Productions.
Since their formation back in 2003, the California based trio has produced over 200 short films and music videos which have since been featured in several international film festivals.
This month, Wong Fu Productions is coming to Jakarta to screen their shorts and share their experiences with fans and aspiring filmmakers.
After nine years of producing and developing their creativity online, Wong Fu will finally greet their fans and talk about their journey on YouTube. The Wong Fu Productions tour will also include Singapore, Manila and Australia.
At the event, Wong Fu Productions will screen at least five short films, with a combination of old and new videos. The tour will feature at least one video that has not been seen on any social media site, so attendees will be among the first to see them.
There will be a question and answer session as well as a meet and greet after the show for fans that want to get autographs and snap some photos.
As you might have guessed, the members of Wong Fu are of Asian descent, but their work includes a variety of social and cultural groups. The trio has garnered a diverse community and an international audience.
Almost all of their works are collaborations with other performance who reached stardom on YouTube, including singers Cathy Nguyen and David Choi, comedian and personalities Nigahiga and Kevjumba, as well as dancer Harry Shum, Jr, who is in the cast of Glee.
Wong Fu Productions has received more than 125 million views on its YouTube channel and an average of 5,000 hits a day on its Web site. Its work has been featured at the Cannes International Film Festival, Seoul International Extreme Short Image & Film Festival, Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival and the San Diego Asian Film Festival.
It has also founded a concert series called the International Secret Agents, with the music group Far East Movement. Famous musicians like Nick Cannon, B.O.B, Sean Kingston and Bruno Mars have performed on the ISA stage.
If you are not familiar with Wong Fu Productions and would like to take a peek at its work on YouTube, here are some of my favorites: “When Five Fell,” “Strangers, Again,” the “Technology Ruins Romance” series and “Two Weeks Later: Resolution Fail.”
Enjoy!
