World Boxing Association bantamweight champion Koki Kameda vowed Wednesday to knock out low-ranked Indonesian challenger Nouldy Manakane in his next title defense.
The 25-year-old Japanese takes on the 12th-ranked WBA contender from Indonesia on April 4 in Yokohama.
He had wanted to fight interim WBA champion Hugo Ruiz but the Mexican has another bout arranged for March.
“It would not be an opponent I had in mind. But I want to outclass him and win by knockout,” Kameda told reporters. “I want to have a great fight which could push me through to the next fight [with Ruiz].”
It will be Kameda’s fourth defense of the title he won when he beat Alexander Munoz of Venezuela in December 2010. In his last title bout, in December, he knocked out Mario Macias of Mexico.
Kameda has a record of 27 wins, 17 by knockout, and one defeat.
For Manakane, 28, it will be his first crack at a world title. He has won 24 matches, including 15 by knockout, lost 10 and drawn one.
