Anggodo to Police: Step Up KPK Probe
Businessman Anggodo Widjojo on Thursday came to the National Police headquarters to demand detectives step up their investigation into his complaint against the Corruption Eradication Commission for taping his telephone lines.
Anggodo’s lawyer, Bonaran Situmeang, said the commission, also known as the KPK, had no legal right to wiretap his client’s telephone conversations since Anggodo had not been declared a graft suspect. Bonaran added that some of the tapped conversations were between Anggodo and himself, making them privileged.
“I have given evidence to police detectives in the form of several copies of news reports in which the transcripts of the wiretapped recordings of my client’s telephone conversations were published. This is illegal,” Bonaran said, referring to 67 separate recordings of Anggodo’s telephone conversations, which were secretly taped by KPK officials.
Anggodo is the brother of fugitive graft suspect Anggoro Widjojo, the subject of a KPK investigation into graft allegations.
