Solo. Police officials confirmed on Thursday that the elite squad pursuing the accomplices of Dulmatin in Central Java have arrested a suspect, bringing to 23 the number of those detained since antiterror operations were launched last month.

Comr. Gen. Ito Sumardi, the National Police’s chief of detectives, told reporters in Jakarta that the suspect was arrested by officers from Densus 88 in Solo late on Wednesday night.

“We are still questioning him,” he said, declining to identify the suspect or provide further details except that “it’s related to the latest raids in Aceh and Pamulang,” referring to police operations over the past two weeks in the remote regions of the Sumatran province and in Tangerang.

All the suspects in custody are facing terrorism charges, officials have confirmed.

A source in Solo said Densus 88 raided terrorist hideouts in Baki subdistrict, Sukoharjo, Central Java, about 10 kilometers from the Al Mukmin Islamic Boarding School of hard-line Muslim cleric Abu Bakar Bashir in Ngruki, and in Banyuanyar subdistrict in northern Solo. The police, however, declined to confirm the raids.

In related news, the family of Dulmatin, the high-profile terrorist leader, shot dead by police in Pamulang on Tuesday, left their home in Tulakan village, Sukoharjo, on Wednesday night. Budi Kuswanto, from the Muslim Lawyers Team (TPM), told journalists in Solo that the family — including widow, Istiadah, and six children, aged between 7 and 14 — had gone to Pemalang on Central Java’s north coast to visit Dulmatin’s relatives.

Achmad Kholid, another TPM attorney, said one of Dulmatin’s brothers had left for Jakarta to prepare the body for his burial today.

Police on Wednesday confirmed Dulmatin’s identity.

“His DNA sample matched 100 percent with the sample DNA taken from his son, Ali Usman, 12, and his mother, Masyiati, 48,” National Police Medical Chief Brig. Gen. Musaddeq Ishaq said.

National Police Chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri said Dulmatin had spent Rp 500 million ($54,500) on weapons to set up the alleged paramilitary training camp in Aceh.

Ito said the police were continuing to investigate the source of the firearms uncovered during the raids in Pamulang and Aceh.

Police were also looking into how Dulmatin, an expert bomb-maker, managed to enter the country illegally from the Philippines, Bambang added.

Also found on Dulmatin were a remote and electronic circuit for a bomb, bomb-making manuals, a pistol, a receipt from a money changer in Menteng dated Dec. 24, and another from a money changer in the Philippines, dated from 2003. He also had an ID card and a passport issued in East Jakarta under the name Yahya Ibrahim.

Along with Dulmatin, two of his bodyguards, identified as Hasan Nur and Ridwan, were also killed on Tuesday. Three other s detained in the Pamulang raids were Bakti Ratna, a k a Abu Haikal; Syaiful Siregar, a k a Imam; and an unidentified woman.

Police have also arrested a person identified as Dr. Fauzi, who allegedly sheltered Dulmatin at his house in Pamulang. Fauzi is believed to be linked to Abu Jibriel, deputy chairman of the hard-line Indonesian Mujahedeen Council (MMI) and father of terrorist suspect Muhammad Jibriel Abdul Rahman, who is currently on trial over last year’s hotel bombings in Jakarta.

Separately, the military and police held a joint antiterror exercise involving more than 3,500 personnel at Merdeka Square on Thursday, which Military Chief Gen. Djoko Santoso said had nothing to do with the upcoming visit of US President Barack Obama.
