Bali Police are saying that a 14-year-old Australian boy arrested in Bali for possession of marijuana is enrolled in a drug rehabilitation program back in his country.
Bali drug squad chief Sr. Comr. Mulyadi said on the sidelines of an Asean ministerial meeting on transnational crime in Nusa Dua that it was not known how long the teenager had been using drugs.
“I could not tell the details as they need investigation,” Mulyadi said on Tuesday. “His parents are taking medical records from his country. We hope to have them soon.”
Mulyadi said that he could only detain the boy for 30 days before declaring him as a suspect.
“But we hope to make it faster,” he said. “The investigation actually has been done. We only need to wait for the documents, such as recommendations from the correctional center, psychiatrist, laboratory test and medical record.”
He said that he hoped the dossier could be handed over to the prosecutor this week.
The teenager, with the initials L.M., was arrested in Bali on Oct. 4 on vacation with his family.
L.M. told police he bought the 6.9 grams of marijuana from an unknown person in Kuta.
Police have said the boy is unlikely to face prison time.
