Bogor. The West Java Police has named Bogor Deputy District Head Karyawan Farturahman a suspect for his alleged involvement in spreading a pornographic video that purportedly features a politician.

“K.F. was named a suspect on Monday,” West Java Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Martinus Sitompul said on Thursday. “Today, we summoned him to be questioned by the police.”

The sex video said to have been made in 2010 allegedly involves the former head of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) West Java chapter, Rudi Harsa Tanaya, and a university student.

The five-minute video was sent on Dec. 6, 2010, to PDI-P chairmwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri, who consequently decided to fire Rudi.

Rudi accused Karyawan, also a PDI-P politician, and PDI-P Bogor board member Indra Lesmana, of spreading the video and reported them to the police. Indra was arrested in January in the same case.

Karyawan is charged with Article 29 of the Anti-Pornography Law. According to Chapter 29 of the law, anyone who produces, makes, disseminates, broadcasts, imports, exports, offers, sells or rents pornography can face a minimum six months or maximum 12-year prison term, with fines ranging from Rp 250 million ($27,000) to Rp 6 billion.

Karyawan refused to comment about the case.

“I’m outside Bogor, in a party meeting in Bali and East Nusa Tenggara. About the case, I can’t comment because I don’t know [anything about it],” he said.
