I'd agree. Every day in Indonesia a life seems to be worth less and less and respect for others is slowly disappearing.

"Hidayah said that as she cried in pain with her head bowed, Fatahul returned with hot water and poured it over her head and chest"

It's sick that people act like this, it's also disturbing that the people are brought up in such a master/servant mind set that the maid after been slapped and burned with an iron, waited for the "master" to return and burn her with hot water, instead of running away or fighting back.

though I truly appreciated Pak Habibie's effort to go to Saudi to save a maid from death penalty, but I wish he would/could do alot more in Indonesia (since it becomes more like the Republic of Indonistan..)

A shocking account as ghastly as it is all too common. Is there something in the collective psyche of the community here that makes such a polite humble folk suddenly snap and burst into a fit of uncontrollable rage ?

Or is it perhaps a case of too much sinetron ?

This kind of hate crime happens here a lot. The perpetrators are sentenced and punished, it's common knowledge and yet these acts continue. No wonder it's becoming harder to find a maid these days.

This was already done in Saudi Arabia. Now they take that as inspiration.

An enraged employer, Fatahul Hazizah, 35, is accused of attacking her domestic worker, Hidayah Amani, 19, after discovering a suspicious SMS message on her husband’s cellphone that he had allegedly sent the woman.

Hidayah said Fatahul approached her and accused her of having an affair with her boss in their Denpasar home. At the time, Fatahul was sitting with a friend, who was ironing.

Fatahul allegedly slapped and kicked Hidayah, then grabbed the hot iron and pressed it against the side of the woman’s face.

Hidayah said that as she cried in pain with her head bowed, Fatahul returned with hot water and poured it over her head and chest.

Nengah Budawati of the Bali-based Legal Aid Foundation of the Indonesian Women’s Association for Justice (LBH Apik) said on Friday that her organization planned to help the victim take her complaint to the police on Monday.
