What is the crime for this in Indonesia? I hope that it is high. I personally know of several Indonesian university students that get off on learning how to commit computer hacking for pro-Islamic functions. I am sick of Indonesia slacking off on arresting future terrorists, even if they maybe Muslim.

Boyolali, Central Java. A man has been arrested in the Central Java town of Boyolali for assembling a pipe bomb, videotaping the process and distributing it using his cellphone.

Ibnu Irfan Aziz, 20, was charged under the anti-terror legislation after he made a makeshift bomb using a pipe, fertilizer, sulfur and iron ore.

The explosive was connected by a wire to his cellphone, which acted as the detonator, said Sugeng, a local leader in Potronayan village, Boyolali, about 150 kilometers east of the provincial capital, Semarang.

The footage showed Ibnu assembling the bomb and setting it off in a paddy field, throwing up a huge cloud of dust.

Police arrested him on Saturday after the video spread among residents in the small town.

According to Sugeng, Ibnu learned how to make the bomb from a friend named Ahmad Jawawi, from Makassar, South Sulawesi, whom he had met online.

“He told me, before the police arrested him, that he knew Ahmad from a social network,” Sugeng said.

“He just wanted to see if he could do it. I don’t think he was involved with any terrorist or extremist groups.”

In the three-minute video, Ibnu is seen wearing a black skullcap of the kind often worn by devout Muslims.

The explosion did not attract the attention of locals because the villagers thought the blast came from a huge firecracker, Sugeng said.

Another friend, Taufik, described Ibnu as funny and smart.

“He joked a lot and I believe he was just joking when he did that. As far as I know, he is a good guy,” Taufik said.

Ibnu’s brother, Rizki Pambudi, said it was true that his brother had assembled and detonated the bomb.

“He did that [blew up the bomb] after the Idul Fitri prayers. He is good at technical things like that,” he said.

The Boyolali Police have yet to comment on the case, saying they still need to collect more evidence before making a statement.

Fertilizer and sulfur are the most common explosive materials used in attacks in the country. Cellphones are often used to detonate bombs as they allow the bomber to keep a safe distance from the blast.
