you cannot move in some places for minimarts etc - however since the ban on hotels has been 100% ignored why should this one not be?

Remind me. What was that proverb again, something about shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted.

The Denpasar administration announced on Tuesday that it would no longer issue operating permits to mini-marts in a bid to keep the city’s traditional markets alive amid competition from convenience stores.

Ida Bagus Rahoela, a spokesman for the administration, said there would be no more new additions to the 295 registered mini-marts in the city, which also has 55 traditional markets.

Rahoela said many of the convenience stores were in violation of zoning or operating regulations by being situated too close to traditional markets or selling goods only allowed to be sold at markets .
