Eddie Widiono, the former director of state electricity firm PLN has appealed against his graft conviction at the Anti-Corruption Court.
His lawyer, Magdir Ismail, told reporters that he was filing an appeal at the Jakarta High Court. He said his client was not guilty of receiving bribes or profiting from the Roll-Out CIS RISI project run by PLN’s Jakarta and Tangerang offices.
Magdir argued that his client was not obliged to pay punitive damages of Rp 2 billion ($220,000) as sought by prosecutors but still received a five-year jail sentence and made to pay Rp 500 million.
The panel of judges said Eddie was proven to have instructed PLN official Fahmi Mochtar to appoint Netway Utama to provide Rp 92.27 billion worth of services. The project, which ran from 2004 to 2006, was only budgeted to cost 46.08 billion.
