RuleBritannia - I disagree with the death penalty either, and the act of stealing that she did is kinda worrying to her safety and sentence as well, but Rp. 76 million is only the matter of money, compared to a life. I hope by negotiation, Tuti can be saved, in this point, she is the victim, ok. It is so inhuman to see a woman being raped and then sentence to death, at least, she is giving a chance to defend, unlike (the late) Ruyati who ended differently...

It is uncanny yet upsetting, lately, I see most of the news from middle east are about a rape victims who are being prisoned because of offending moral laws...

RuleBritannia...while I don't agree with the death penalty either; we carry also the death penalty in some States in the US. If a US citizen happened to be on death row in Saudi Arabia or elsewhere; the US would also appeal.

I am curious with Islam Defender Front and others hardliner (fake) Moslem?.what are they going to do with fellow Indonesian which are Moslem and work in foreign counties like Saudi Arbia, Qatar, etc? NOTHING!!! They do NOT DEFEND their Felow brothers and sisters who are INDONESIAN MOSLEM!!! so please? Show yourself as a real defender instead as anarchist THUGS or Bandits who use (I can say ABUSE) the name of the one and only Holy Allah and Holy prophet Muhammad SAW'

While I don't agree with the death penalty, Indonesia is very quick to apply the law to its fullest extend, especially to foreigners, while not always imposing the same sentences on its owns citizens. Well here, dear Indonesia, you see the same thing being done. And while it may have been self defense, stealing Rp76million is probably going to end that as a valid defense.

Former Indonesian President BJ Habibie was scheduled to leave for Suadi Arabia on Saturday in an effort to save the live of Tuti Tursilawati, a migrant worker facing imminent beheading for murdering a man who allegedly attempted to rape her.

Moh Jumhur Hidayat, head of the National Agency for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI), praised Habibie’s attempt to save the life of Tuti, 27.

Jumhur said he had met Habibie to convey his hope that the former president could save her from the gallows.

Tuti is a migrant worker from the village of Cikeusik, Majalengkat, West Java.

She was sent to Saudi Arabia by PT Arunda Bayu on Sept. 5, 2009, and had worked for the family of Suud Malhaq Al Utaibi in the city of Thaif.

Tuti was sentenced to death for the murder of her employer. According to reports, her employer abused her sexually during the time she was working for him. On May 11, 2010, he allegedly attempted to rape her, but she struck him with a stick to defend herself, and he died as a result.

She later fled with his fortune worth 31,500 Riyals (Rp 76 million) and his watch.

During police questioning on May 18, 2010, Tuti, who was accompanied by a staff member of the Indonesian consulate general in Jedda, confessed to the murder and theft.

Her father, Ali Warjuki, also known as Dudu, went to the BNP2TKI office in Jakarta on Oct. 5, 2011, accompanied by activists from the Indonesian Migrant Workers Labor Union (SBMI), to urge the government to free Tuti from the planned beheading.

According to Jumhur, Habibie left for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday and would be met by Maftuh Basyuni, the head of the Task Force on the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers in Riyadh.

Habibie was expected to meet a number of figuresm including Prince Al Walid bin Talal Al Saud, an influential businessman and a nephew of King Abdullah Bin Abdul Azis Al Saud.

On Oct. 6, 2011, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono sent a letter to the Saudi King to ask for the King’s help in seeking forgiveness for Tuti from the victim’s relatives.

Tuti is a single parent with a six-year-old son.
