400km! 400km! Let journalists do journalism! Commentators here know a lot more than I do. All I know is my country, Australia, requires visas of most visitors, and forbids access to various islands and indiginous people's territories. Zamecnik is a guest, 400 kilometers away from his declared place of stay! Given the sensitivity of the region, I'm impressed he was permitted access at all. Australia's foreign ministry discourages Australians from travelling to Papua and Aceh. Forbidding journalists to observe is suspicious of course, but keeping tourists out of danger is nothing but praiseworthy!

To what extend does West Papua Melanesia have to remain part of this barbaric, incompetent & corrupt Generals-soap called RI? Papuans DO NOT NEED another 40 years of atrocities, slow motion genocide and autonomy lies, packed up in a new UP4B-scenario, which are well known, but outdated RI-stalling & divert-attention tactics from West Papua Melanesia's GENUINE RIGHT TO SELF DETERMINATION. The Netherlands through an ICJ ADVISORY OPINION, have to hold RI accountable on the wrongful implementation of the International 1962 New York Agreement which still has to be re-implemented to its merites and purpose (the Referendum obligation). As a result the process of the 1969 Act of NO CHOICE can be corrected to restore wrongful decisions made in the past. Instead of playing a JUDAS-ROLE by selling Leopard Tanks to this barbaric RI generals regime, The Netherlands as 1962 NY Agreement- Tractant, is morally obliged to place West Papua back on the UN C-24 Non-Self Governing Territories-list.

Funny I never knew that the Indonesian constitution barred tourists from taking photos. Wait until the European media picks up this story

Manokwari. Police in Indonesia’s restive Papua region arrested a Czech tourist Wednesday for taking photos of a pro-independence demonstration, district police said.

Petr Zamecnik, 35, was detained in the town of Manokwari, around 400 kilometers east of the popular Raja Ampat diving site in West Papua province, Manokwari police chief Agustinus Supriyanto told AFP.

“We questioned him because his travel permit lists him as a tourist. He has now been handed over to immigration,” Supriyanto said.

“Zamecnik was supposed to go on a holiday to Raja Ampat but he was found taking pictures of a protest instead.”

Around 100 ethnic Melanesian Papuans marched to the governor’s building Wednesday afternoon yelling “Free Papua, we are not Indonesians”, carrying a banner showing the outlawed Papuan Morning Star separatist symbol.

Indonesia imposes strict visa regulations on foreign visitors to Papua and tight restrictions on foreign journalists looking to report from the region.

Jakarta annexed Papua in 1969 in a self-determination referendum widely seen as rigged and continues to keep a tight grip on the region through its military and police to quell a decades-long insurgency by poorly armed rebels.

In 2010, two French journalists were deported from Papua for filming a peaceful demonstration outside government-approved areas.
