Jakarta. President-elect Joko Widodo is set to meet with outgoing President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the end of this month to discuss matters related to government policies and other issues to ensure a smooth transition from the current administration to the next.

“Jokowi agreed to meet President Yudhoyono on Aug. 27 or 28 in Bali. I will report this to the president,” Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto told reporters in a text message on Saturday evening.

Yudhoyono will be in Bali during this period to attend the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations forum.

Djoko said Yudhoyono had assigned him to meet Joko to arrange the meeting soon after the Constitutional Court issued its verdict on the presidential election dispute, confirming Joko and his running mate Jusuf Kalla as the official winners.

“At first there were two alternatives for the [meeting] schedule. The first is [for it to be held] in Jakarta after President [Yudhoyono] returns from Bali on Aug. 30 or [to hold the meeting in Bali] on Aug. 28,” he said, adding that Joko decided to go with the second option.

Presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said the meeting would be an important step toward ensuring a smooth transition between the two administrations.

“It is the president’s act of goodwill to discuss the transition of leadership so that it will run smoothly,” he said.

Joko himself has previously expressed his desire to meet with Yudhoyono to discuss government programs lined out in the 2015 State Budget as well as a range of other issues and challenges within the different ministries.

Joko and Kalla have also formed a transition think-thank to help them prepare ahead of their October inauguration.

Nice one… SBY trying to remain relevant as long as possible… yawn…

“…It is the president’s act of goodwill to discuss the transition of leadership…” – oh for heavens sake – i’s common courtesy I would say and not some super-special gracious act which needs to be particularly emphasized upon.

Act of goodwill? Rubbish, it is his duty as president! After all he is not just a mere parking attendant or palace mannequin.
