An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale rattled the Ujung Kulon National Park region in West Java at 7:13 a.m. on Wednesday, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said.

The quake, located at a depth of 10 kilometers, was felt in Tangerang and Jakarta. No tsunami alert was issued.

It was the second earthquake in less than 24 hours. At 7 p.m. on Tuesday, a quake recorded at 6.0 on the Richter scale was recorded near Sukabumi in West Java. It was also felt in Jakarta, as well as Central Java.

SCTV reported that in Sumedang, West Java, patients and visitors of the Sumedang General Hospital panicked when they felt the tremor.

The quake was also felt by residents of Tasikmalaya. Last September, a 7.3-magnitude quake rattled the West Java town and caused major damage.
