Makassar. The discovery of the body of a murdered man late on Sunday night triggered fears of renewed clashes between to warring communities in Palu, Central Sulawesi.

The body of Anwar Ibrahim, 35, was discovered with a slashed throat, though police were quick to deny the death had anything to do with violent clashes

Around 400 officers have been deployed to guard the border between two rival neighborhoods in Palu, Central Sulawesi after a deadly brawl erupted on Saturday, killing one person and wounding dozens more.

Palu city police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Ahmad Ramadhan said on Sunday that officers were combing the two neighborhoods and confiscated 10 Molotov cocktails as well as dozens of spears, machetes, bows and arrows.

Police, he said, had also identified the killer of Muhammad Ridwan, who died after being shot in the chest at close range with an air rifle.

The Nunu and Tavanjuka neighborhoods have long feuded, and conflicts have occasionally erupted.

Initiatives to reconcile the warring factions have been conducted by security forces and elders from both camps in the past.
