The whistleblower who revealed the Rp 24 billion ($2.64 million) bribery scandal surrounding the election of Miranda Goeltom as central bank senior deputy governor testified against a former colleague on trial at the Anti-Corruption Court on Friday.

Agus Condro Prayitno, a former lawmaker who was expelled from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) after his revelation to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in 2008, testified against sitting PDI-P lawmaker Dudhie Makmun Murod, with whom he once served in the House of Representatives.

Agus told the court that Dudhie played a central role in the bribery, alleging he had distributed Rp 9.8 billion to 19 PDI-P members — including Agus and Dudhie — of House Commission IX, which at the time oversaw financial affairs.

During the hearing, Agus said that after the senior deputy governor election, Dudhie placed an envelope in front of him.

“Dudhie said, ‘this is the fee.’ I was told to open the envelope and saw ten traveler’s checks, each worth Rp 50 million,” Agus said.

Lead prosecutor Muhammad Rum also questioned Agus about a meeting at the Dharmawangsa Hotel in South Jakarta, at which senior PDI-P politicians Tjahjo Kumolo and Panda Nababan allegedly promised party members bribes to vote for Miranda.

“We were told... to vote for Miranda. I thought it made sense because she is an experienced economist. But then Tjahjo said Miranda had agreed to pay Rp 300 million, but if we asked for Rp 500 million, Miranda wouldn’t mind,” Agus told the court.

Tjahjo and Panda have denied allegations that they masterminded the bribery or received illicit funds.

Another former PDI-P lawmaker, Max Moein, told the court that he also received Rp 500 million from Dhudie shortly after voting for Miranda.

Dhudie did not challenge the witnesses’ testimonies.

The KPK has also indicted sitting United Development Party (PPP) lawmaker Endin Soefihara and former lawmakers Hamka Yandhu, from the Golkar Party, and Udju Djuhaeri, of the defunct Police and Military faction, who are on trial separately. The antigraft body alleges that the four distributed bribe money to members of their respective parties.

The KPK has identified all 39 current and former lawmakers it claims received the illicit funds, including Paskah Suzetta, the former minister of national development planning and a senior Golkar member.

The KPK has not charged the other 35 lawmakers nor formally identified the origin of the alleged bribe money.

The prosecution, however, said that businesswoman Nunun Nurbaeti Daradjatun was responsible for disbursing bribes to the four defendants.

Nunun is the wife of Adang Daradjatun, former National Police deputy chief turned Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) lawmaker, as well as owning trading firm PT Wahana Esa Sejati.
