A twin-engine propeller plane was forced to land in an East Kalimantan field, injuring one passenger, an Indonesian transportation ministry spokesman said on Thursday.

Bambang Ervan, a spokesman for the ministry, said that an ATR-42 plane operated by Trigana Air had to undertake an emergency landing on a field in Kutai Kertanegara, East Kalimantan.

“One of the two engines had a problem,” he said.

The plane was heading from Berau to Samarinda, carrying 51 passengers and five crew members. Bambang said that after learning that the plane had lost an engine, the pilot decided to divert the plane to Balikpapan.

“However, it had not yet reached Balikpapan when it was forced to land in a field,” Bambang said.

Trigana Air, based in Jakarta and Papua, focuses on serving shorter routes in the eastern part of Indonesia. It operates 10 ATRs, two Boeing 737s, three Twin Otters and two Cessnas.
