467552jetset24 - I take your point. A few hundred years ago in England, it was against the law for ordinary people to read the bible, they did so on punishment of death. The given reason, that the word of God was not meant for them, they were too stupid to interpret the meanings; of course the real reason was control, telling them what you want them to understand. Of course the World has moved on since then and people are sufficiently educated to read 'their' Holy book for themselves, not having to rely on the word of 'preachers', and sensible enough not to interpret the words in a too literal way, and broad-minded enough to understand that these 'books' were written thousands of years ago, when peoples understanding was not so enlightened and when the World was another place altogether; for example the World was flat.
Today everybody is able to pick up their holy book and read and take what they need from it, dismissing the fantasy from the fact, and realising that discovery has altered much, we are more enlightened, and that the World has changed. People no-longer must accept was is told to them as fact by 'higher' beings.
We can look at the World today, this peaceful, harmonious place, thank God for religion, and feel satisfied at how we progressed.
I am afraid the majority of the people are NOT on the same page when it comes down to religion. Therefore conflicting of beliefs are rampant. Blaming one another is a way out.
Wouldn't it be wiser to be secular and tolerant of others. Not one religion is better than the next one. God doesn't see it that way at all. Humans are equal before God. The translation is the same for all religion. Manipulations of all sorts are created by human beings.
"Suryadharma strongly condemned the violence, and stated his opposition to any form of religious violence or terrorism." OK...THEN WHAT about the victims of the Ahmadiyah sect who did not receive a fair trial??
Can you imagine if the "LDS" Latter Day Saints (Mormons) were persecuted by modern Christians because their own interpretation of a prophet came after Jesus to spill a new testament?? We live in a civilized world where pluralism should be followed.
I am in agreement with "blightyboy" on this one. There's only one person who has to take the burden of guilt and that is the President of Indonesia.
He has been aware of this for a long, long time and yet he has done nothing much to curb the "movement."
Within 24 hours the whole world will be reading about this. Well, he deserves all that's coming to him.
I guess he'll fire Suryadarma and tell the world about this. In fact, rumors has it that Suryadarma is on the list to be dismissed.
Shame on you Mr. President!
But it's OK to murder Other Muslims if you consider them Kafir or infidels. Pathetic hypocrite.
Religious
Affairs Minister Suryadharma Ali strongly
condemned the suicide bombing at Kepunton
Bethel Church Indonesia in Solo, Central Java,
and urged the police to
fully investigate the attack.
Speaking at an inauguration ceremony for United
Development Party officials, Suryadharma announced that he had just received
news of the deadly attack, which is believed to have claimed the lives of at least one person.
"At 11:00 there was a suicide bomb, detonated
at a church in Solo.
There are a number of casualties but the number is uncertain because people are still
being evacuated, " Suryadharma said.
State news agency quoted a church security officer as saying that that the suicide bomber was killed and eight other people injured in the terrorist attack.
Suryadharma strongly condemned the violence, and stated
his opposition to any form of religious violence or terrorism.
He also said that he expected police to immediately investigate
the attack and prosecute any accomplices found to be working with the bomber.
