Why people like him always have excuse that it was scheduled long before the disaster happened??

Dóh...it's natural disaster, it's emergency situation. Which one is more important Sir??? Idiot!!

Once again, a government official showing off great lack of:

1) sensitivity

2) empathy

3) knowledge on how to prioritize

4) repeat from the above

He should have cancelled the trip and stayed on the ground where people have died and are currently suffering. The guy is an insensitive arse and should be sacked.

This governor should rather have a commitment to his people and to his province than to some Ambassador. I am sure everybody would understand the urgent reason for a cancellation, if given!

A bad choice of priorities...

Munich. West Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno has broken his silence since leaving the disaster-struck province for a trip to Europe, saying he was giving a presentation on investment opportunities in Munich, Germany, on Friday morning.

“I will return to Jakarta [on Saturday] at 2 p.m. From Jakarta I will fly straight to Padang. I will return to work on Saturday evening,” Irwan told state news agency Antara from Munich on Thursday.

Irwan, from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), was criticized by fellow West Sumtra politician Irman Gusman, head of Regional Representatives Council (DPD), for abandoning the province as it continues to struggle to provide emergency assistance in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami that struck the Mentawai Islands last Tuesday.

Irwan said that in March he was invited by the Indonesian ambassador to Germany, Eddy Pratomo, to attend “Indonesian Business Day.”

“I already recieved permission from the Ministry of Home Affairs and it was scheduled long before the tsunami hit Mentawai. I didn't come here for a vacation,” Irwan said.

“This is my commitment to Ambassador Eddy Pratomo who prepared the Indonesian Business Day event,” Irwan said.

He said his deputy, Muslim Kasim, was handling the disaster response.

Ambassador Eddy Pratomo said he appreciated Irwan's commitment to attend the event.

“I invited 12 provincial governments to this event but the only positive response came from West Sumatra,” Eddy said.
