Online comments: My Jakarta: Tineke, an 80-year-old female athlete who is still active in track and field. (March 20)

You replied:

What an amazing lady! But this one sentence hurts badly:

“I don’t receive a pension for being a veteran athlete or a retired teacher.” She represented Indonesia for almost her entire life in a proud manner, not like many wannabes without a clue in Indonesia’s diplomatic services.

I’ll go along with you on this one. She’s truly a champion.

What an inspiration! I particularly like how she separates patriotism from the current administration. In the Oprah-speak I am loath to use, you GO girl!

Indonesia’s World Cup Bid Officially Dead (March 20)

Was it ever officially alive?

We asked: Whom do you believe amid all these allegations, Susno Duadji or the National Police?

You replied:

I can’t believe either of them. It’s like a drama inside the police and truth is far away. Susno could fix a lot of bad things if he really told the truth, though.

I wish just once they could get to the bottom of one of these things. Susno is the guy who framed the KPK folks, right? A nd he was under investigation himself at the time. Now he points the finger at his former buddies and they say they are innocent, of course.

Anyway, it’s fun to see the crocodiles squirm. One irony is that the KPK’s Bibit Samad Rianto, one of the guys set up by Susno supposedly, is the point man on the case for the graft busters.

Indonesia’s economy is doing well, is what all the news says these days. I wonder how good it would be if the police, court, prosecutors, legislature and government people were really honest.
