US Navy Ships Help Quake Relief Effort
Two US warships arrived off the Indonesian coast on Friday to assist
with the aid effort for survivors of last week's 7.6-magnitude
earthquake, the US embassy said.
The USS Denver with helicopter
and lift capabilities and the USS McCampbell carried five military
helicopters to ferry supplies and relief
workers to isolated villages hit by the disaster.

in the worst-hit city of Padang, on the west Sumatran coast, and
another 45 tonnes of humanitarian supplies were on their way, said the embassy.
Almost

latest official death toll. Aid workers believe the final toll could be
more than 3,000.About
100,000 homes were completely destroyed
and entire villages were wiped out in landslides, leaving an estimated
