@jetset24. The Indonesian authorities concentrate on trivialities. Nazaruddin, Neneng, Nunung & other corruptors could leave the country when they were all suddenly asleep & snorning.

Of course this is a money matter.

DrDez, You are missing my point. This person in question did not bribe which is a good attitude considering that he is famous back in his home country.

Your quick attitude regarding issues outside Indonesia as being irrelevant to this article sounds like an ego trip.

Like I said being ignorant of the law is no excuse and I would hardly believe that the sponsor thinks that breaking the law can be settled later with cash.

Why would you generalize that most Indonesians would have problems traveling abroad...I doubt that very much. Most Indonesians known through friendship and business acquaintances have no problems traveling to Europe or the US. You are probably talking of first timers who know nothing how thing should run with applying for visas or traveling abroad to countries that Indonesians do not require visas to enter.

And again we can always argue about this issue till doomsday.

Jet

no i dont agree - someone pressed them for cash and they said no, result deport.

regarding other nations - possibly true but not really relevant

regards an Indonesian sponsor being unaware of the law... well most think the law is something to be bought anyway so again irrelevsnt

I say well done to him for not paying up -

yes we have a bad reputation re immmigration which is why we find it very difficult to travel to many places - everything can be bought which is my point really and those who refuse to play the $ game are dealt with thus or worse

DrDez...Giving a fair balance of the situation and put aside Indonesia's earned reputation that would NEVER be forgotten even if the local authorities have made some improvement. Nothing would ever be worthwhile in the eyes of any foreigner. A clear example of suspicion that has been set in stone.

However, this is another case of a foreigner behaving badly by abusing his visa terms during his visit in another country. Being ignorant of the law whether it is in the UK or in the US is NOT an excuse for example, WHY would it be any different in this country.

It is unfortunate that the sponsors were unaware of the visa classification and made this artist end up in hot waters. A six month hold from entering in this country is peanuts. Some foreign countries would impose a 10 year ban.

Multi-platinum-selling singer and actor Christian Bautista will be escorted to a plane and sent back to the Philippines on Friday night after violating the terms of his visa by giving a performance in Indonesia this week.

Immigration official Herawan Sukoaji said on Friday that Bautista was being deported for disrespecting and disobeying Indonesia’s 30-day visa regulations, which prohibit foreigners from working while in the country.

Bautista is also barred from re-entering Indonesia for six months, Herawan added.

The singer is scheduled to leave Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on an 8 p.m. Singapore Airlines flight.

“Christian’s departure to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport will be escorted by investigators from the Directorate General of Immigration,” Herawan said.

Bautista was pulled in for questioning and had his passport confiscated on Thursday after it was discovered that he had staged a performance in Lippo Karawaci, Tangerang, the previous night.

After being questioned by immigration officials, he appeared on TransTV on Thursday night.

The announcement that he would be deported came on Friday morning.

According to Herawan, Bautista has traveled to Indonesia numerous times on a work visa.

“But this time, the sponsor did not fully understand the immigration regulations, so Christian used the free visa,” Herawan said.
