Philippine singer and actor Christian Bautista may be deported from Indonesia after allegedly violating the terms of his visa.
The multi-platinum-selling recording artist and film star was questioned by immigration authorities on Thursday. They allege that he entered the country under a free tourist visa, but gave a performance in Lippo Karawaci on Wednesday.
“The allegation is based on his activities in Indonesia that are not in accordance to what is stated in his [Bautista’s] visa permit,” said Maryoto, a spokesman for the Directorate of Immigration, Law and Human Rights.
“Bautista had a performance at Lippo Karawaci, but when we checked, apparently his visa was free.”
Foreigners entering the country on a free, 30-day visa are prohibited from working in the country.
It was not immediately clear what the nature of the performance was, or whether the singer received any compensation.
Maryoto said that Bautista was being questioned as to whether he had authorization to perform in the country.
The meeting ended at 5 p.m., he added.
If Bautista is found to be in violation of his visa, he could be deported, and potentially barred from the country permanently, Maryoto said.
