SBY's Democrats Remain Optimistic on 2014 Chances

Ms Nurhayati Ali Assegaf..."She noted that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s concern over the declining popularity of the party must be responded to by members through working harder."

It might just help of course if the Democratic Party members didn't get tied up in corrupt activities to the degree that currently is the case and their boss put his shoulder to the wheel and effectively addressed some of the major issues

affecting the country.

First we got this from the Democrats today:

"“We are still optimistic. We are not worried if anyone other than Pak SBY is linked to corruption cases,” Ramadhan said. “So long as Pak SBY stays clean then we will claim back our position,” he added.

And now we get this from Murhayat Ali Assegaf as she made made this gaff:"She further hoped all party members would follow the president’s directives and leadership and avoid airing their dirty laundry in public. “What happens inside need not be revealed to the media. Do not present a bad show to the public.”

God willing; God willing; God willing.

Well might she put the party's fate in the hands of God - but someone might point out to her that He doesn't vote at the next election.

I think it's about time this Party was renamed: The Dumbcracking Party.

The only thing they seem good at at present is making one embarrasing, politically dumb public statement after another.

The ruling Democratic Party remained optimistic, as officials said it would win the next general election in 2014, despite current problems caused by charges filed against party members.

“God willing in 2014 the Democratic Party could again become the winner,” head of the party’s foreign affairs department, Nurhayati Ali Assegaf, said at the parliament building on Wednesday.

She noted that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s concern over the declining popularity of the party must be responded to by members through working harder.

“Cadres must be optimistic. God willing, this will be the nadir and after that we will spur on the people to know what SBY [Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono] and the party have done,” she said.

She added that the decline in the party’s popularity is not the responsibility of Yudhoyono or the general chairman or secretary general, but all party members.

“The question now is how to regain public trust. So, let us rebuild the party’s reputation,” said Nurhayati, who is also a member of the House of Representatives Commission I dealing with foreign affairs.

She warned that the problems that have hit the Democratic Party would still continue until 2014, and therefore party members must work hard to respond to them.

“What we need is solidarity among members and a strengthening of the constituents,” she said.

Nurhayati also said the Democratic Party remains serious in its campaigns promoting anti-corruption and the rule of law.

“It has been approved with the party’s decision to suspend members who have been named suspects in connection with their legal cases,” she said.

“That is the firm action of SBY. The Democratic Party remains serious in its campaign against corruption and people know it. People believe in what SBY and the party leaders have done,” she said.

“So I am convinced, God willing, that the Democratic Party will still win in the 2014 general elections, so long as members remain solid, maintain their constituents and are loyal to the party’s principles... Like a house, we must not allow it to be destroyed by storm from outside or inside,” she said.
