Hungary.  Rio Haryanto’s chances of winning the title in the GP3 Series were dashed in Hungary on Sunday, after the Indonesian driver failed to secure a point for a second consecutive grand prix.

The 19-year-old Manor Racing driver finished outside of the top 10 in the two races at the Hungaroring track in Budapest, as the frontrunners continued to increase their lead in the overall standings.

With dismal results in races in both Hungary and Germany on July 25, Rio remains in fifth place, 54 points behind the leader Mexican Esteban Gutierrez of ART Grand Prix.

Rio’s frustrating spell in Budapest began when he ended up second from the bottom during the qualifying rounds.

He started the first race on Saturday in 28th place but managed to finish 21st, 53.563 seconds behind winner Dutch driver Nico Mueller of Jenzer Motorsport.

Joining Mueller on the podium were runner-up Gutierrez and third place finisher Stefano Coletti of Tech 1 Racing.

In the second race on Sunday Rio was faster, finishing 11th. ART Grand Prix’s Alexander Rossi came in first with a time of 26:27.165, followed by second place finisher Status Grand Prix’s Robert Wickens and Dean Smith of Carlins who finished third.

With just two rounds left in the series and a maximum 40 points available, Gutierrez comfortably leads the drivers’ standings with 75 points, having won four of 12 races. Rio’s deficit puts him out of title contention.
