Australian referee Paul Marks has been dropped from the Super 14 officials panel, according to The Australian newspaper.

The paper said on Thursday that Marks was removed after his controversial handling of the Super 14 rugby match between New South Wales Waratahs and the Sharks in Sydney last weekend.

Marks was criticized by Sharks coach John Plumtree after he failed to award the South African team a penalty try when Kurtley Beale knocked down a pass that appeared to deny the Sharks a late try. The Sharks lost 25-21, their fourth successive loss of the season.

South African official Pro Legoete was also dropped by the referees’ selection panel.
