Georgia qualified for the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand after a hard-fought 17-9 victory over Spain in Tblisi on Saturday.

It was Georgia’s seventh victory in eight matches in the European Nations Cup 2010, the World Cup’s European qualification tournament, and left it top of the competition table with the top two teams qualifying.

Russia and Romania, which fought to a 21-21 draw in Sochi, Russia, on Saturday, are the other two sides which can still qualify for next year’s World Cup, with one more slot from Europe still available.

The World Cup kicks off on Sept. 9 with the host facing Tonga in Auckland.
