England flanker James Haskell is trying to play the role of peacemaker in the dispute between his country and rugby club Stade Francais over the terms of his release, saying he regrets the confusion caused.
Stade president Max Guazzini said last week that Haskell was being kept “prisoner” by the Rugby Football Union, which has a binding agreement with all English clubs but not with French ones during the annual Six Nations tournament. “The matter of my release for international duty and training is specifically provided for and I regret that there has been a misunderstanding with the club regarding this,” Haskell, 24, said on Monday.
