Bogor established itself as the early leader as the Jakarta Football League table after winning both of its matches on Saturday.

Round 2 of matches at the Ceylon Cricket Ground in Cibubur, East Jakarta, saw the league’s six teams double up on matches. Squads played twice on Saturday after competing once when the league started on March 27.

Bogor wasted little time proving itself as the team to beat. It began Saturday by beating Depok 3.2 (20) to 1.4 (10), pulling clear thanks to superior goal-kicking. Playing during the hottest part of the day appeared to affect the players’ goal-scoring ability, with just four majors scored.

Having seen off Depok, Bogor went on to win 6.4 (40) to 5.0 (30) against Setia Budi and finish the round still unbeaten. It leads the league with an unblemished 3-0 record, followed closely by Depok and Cileungsi, both 2-1.

Setia Budi started the day by beating Cileungsi 5.10 (40) to 4.3 (27), picking up its first victory of the campaign and handing Cileungsi its first defeat. Klender followed that with a similarly committed effort against Pasar Minggu, picking up its first win in a 5.4 (34) to 3.2 (20) triumph.

In the day’s second set of matches, Cileungsi won 8.5 (53) to 2.1 (13) over Klender while Depok beat Pasar Minggu 12.4 (76) to 1.3 (9). Bogor finished the day atop the table, having come into Saturday with a season-opening win over Klender.

In the presentations at the end of the day, Yosi (Cileungsi), Ibad (Setia Budi), Bobby (Klender), Budcho (Pasar Minggu), Dmas (Depok) and Feldi (Bogor) were recognized as the best on the park. They each won an AusKick pack which included an AFL sports bag, water bottle and other assorted AFL items.

The six-team league is part of an effort by the Jakarta Bintangs, the capital’s own AFL club, to spread Australian Rules football and overall physical education to Jakarta youth. If the early stages of the league go well, Bintangs youth development coordinator Dan Delaney said previously that it could expand to include more teams and young players in future seasons.
