Daud Offered Shot at Chris John

A chance to take on World Boxing Association featherweight champion Chris John has always been a dream for Daud “Cino” Yordan.
He now has a chance to make that dream come true, but doing so will force him to make a difficult choice.

Daud, the World Boxing Organization’s Oriental featherweight champion, said he received an offer to fight International Boxing Organization featherweight champion Jackson Asiku.

"Chris's manager, Craig Christian, called me to offer the bout against Asiku. If I win, then he will set a unification bout with Chris John. The bout may take place in April," Daud said on Thursday.

"I already have my own program, though. Golden Boy Promotions promised a title bout with the winner between WBO champion Steven Luevano and challenger Juan Manuel Lopez."

The 22-year-old Daud hasn't fought since he beating Ricky Sismundo to defend his title on Aug. 15, 2009, in Jakarta.

Golden Boy Promotions previously tried to put the Indonesian on the undercard for the “Sugar” Shane Mosley-Andre Berto bout on Jan. 30 in Las Vegas. Daud was scheduled to fight Mexico’s Daniel Ponce De Leon, but the fight was scrapped.

Daud, who could lose his belt if he does not defend his title, said he would assess his options and see which bout takes shape first.
He sounded a confident note when asked whether he was ready to fight Asiku.

"I saw him fight a few times, and I think he's so-so. If I have a chance to fight him, it won't take much time to beat him," he said.
Though the bout is still far from reality, Asiku also took the opportunity to open fire on his possible foe.

"Daud is just an average fighter and I will show everybody this, if he's brave enough to take the fight. He will probably have an excuse, but it’s three months from now so he can't say much." Asiku said.

Asiku, a Uganda-born Australian citizen with a 26-3 (14 KO) career record, took the vacant IBO featherweight title when he knocked out Heriberto Ruiz of Mexico on Nov. 6 in Sydney.

Daud (25-0, 19 KOs) won his WBO belt by beating Robert Allanic of the Philippines in a second-round knockout on June 27 in Pontianak, West Kalimantan.
