Indonesia hopes to secure one more women’s archery berth in this year’s Olympic Games, having already locked up one, an official said on Monday.

Four female competitors will travel to Utah in June to take part in the Archery World Cup. The event is part of qualifying for the London Olympics.

“This is our last chance to grab a ticket to London. The group event usually offers a bigger chance than the individual event,” said Leane Suniar, a member of the leadership board of the Indonesian Archery Association (Perpani).

The four archers — Ika Yuliana, Erwina Safitri, Novia Nuraini and Titiek Kusumawardhani — won the women’s team gold medal at the Southeast Asian Games in Palembang in November.

“They will make it as long as they consistent with their performance,” Leane said.

The quartet has been training together in Bojonegoro, East Java, even though Perpani has yet to officially designate them for the World Cup. To prepare, the team will compete in warm-up events in China and South Korea as part of pre-Olympic training, Leane said.

Indonesia already has one berth in London. Ika Yuliana qualified with her performance in the Asian championship in Tehran in October, though Leane said Ika would only go to the Olympics if she stayed at peak performance.

If she goes, London will be Ika’s second appearance in the Olympics. At the 2008 Games in Beijing, Ika and Rina Dewi Puspitasari lost in the first elimination round. Ika fell to Jennifer Nichols of the US while Rina lost to Russia’s Miroslava Dagbaeva.
