Indonesia will finish the inaugural Asian Youth Games with one bronze medal to show for its efforts in Singapore.

Its last chances at a medal, in boys and girls masters bowling, came up short.

Priyanka finished ninth in the girls’ event with 3,157 pins and 80 bonus points. Indonesia’s boys, meanwhile, missed out on the final round as Adhiguna Widiantoro was 12th after the second round of play and Dennis Ranova was further back in 15th.

Indonesian bowling team manager Aswin Limansanto said his bowlers simply did not have the same skills as athletes from other countries, particularly Singapore, China and South Korea.

“It’s hard to compete against those countries who have been better prepared. Our kids lag behind in terms of skill,” Aswin said. “We are lacking in practice, and part of that is because the bowlers have to pay for their own training sessions.”

Aswin added that the bowlers’ parents had vowed to continue funding their children’s training.

Indonesia’s only medal during the weeklong games was a third-place showing from Ade Chandra Rachmawan and Gede Eka Agustiawan in boys beach volleyball. The duo beat Ashraf Saeed Omar and Mohammed Salem Haidarah of Yemen 21-16, 21-17 at Siloso Beach on Sunday.

China tops the medal table with 24 golds, 14 silvers and eight bronzes.
