Perth Glory moved into first place in Australia’s A-League after three rounds with a 1-0 victory over the Newcastle Jets thanks to Branko Jelic’s goal on halftime.

Perth, which has seven points from two wins and a draw, had a chance to increase the lead in the 47th minute, but a header by former Liverpool and England star Robbie Fowler bounced off the crossbar.

The Wellington Phoenix beat the Central Coast Mariners 2-0 on goals by Leo Bertos and Paul Ifill, stretching their unbeaten home streak to 21 matches.

Adelaide United winger Iain Ramsay scored twice in the 3-2 win over new club Melbourne Heart.
