While Indonesia was wrapped up in the football World Cup earlier this month, one of its own homegrown athletes was making history in another sport at a competition just as storied. Tami Grende, 17, the daughter of a Balinese mother and Italian father, on July 6 became just the third Indonesian to claim a junior Grand Slam tennis title when she and her Chinese partner, Qiu Yu Ye, won the Wimbledon girls’ doubles final, beating Czech Marie Bouzkova and Hungarian Dalma Galfi, 6-2 7-6 (7-5).
