Indonesia’s second straight loss in Fed Cup Asia/Oceania Group I play has left it in danger of relegation back to Group II.

Kazakhstan defeated Indonesia 3-0 in Pool B play at the Shenzhen Luohu Tennis Center in Guangdong, China, on Thursday. Thailand also swept Indonesia 3-0 on Wednesday.

Kazakhstan largely dominated its matches against Indonesia. Yaroslava Shvedova gave it a 1-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-2 defeat of Jessy Rompies, while Indonesia’s top women’s singles player Ayu Fani Damayanti fell 6-1, 6-1 to Sessil Karatantcheva to secure Kazakhstan’s victory.

Indonesia changed its lineup for the doubles match, bringing in Lavinia Tananta to play alongside Jessy instead of Ayu. The new duo lost 6-1, 7-6 (3) to Karatantcheva and Galina Voskobeova.

Kazakhstan’s second Pool B victory left it in joint-first place with Thailand, which also improved to 2-0 after sweeping South Korea 3-0 on Thursday. The top team from each pool in Asia/Oceania Zone Group I faces off on Saturday to decide who advances to the World Group II playoffs in April.

The countries coming last in their pools also play on Saturday to avoid relegation to Asia/Oceania Zone Group II. To avoid the playoff, Indonesia must win its Pool B finale today against South Korea while Thailand and Kazakhstan meet for first place.

Host China leads Pool A at 1-0, with Taiwan 1-1 and Uzbekistan 0-1.
